The Stickiness Factor’s first post!
filed in foundation on May.21, 2009
Hello, world! I’ve been camping on this URL long enough. It’s time to actually do something with it.
My name is Jason. In the tech world, I’m just another bit janitor. I don’t have any huge accolades, I don’t write for mashable, and when I use the toilet, it really stinks. So, if you stumbled upon my site because you dig Malcom Gladwell, I’m sorry to disappoint you but I am not him. If you were unable to figure that out by the first sentence of this paragraph, that’s your fault. However, if you came here because you’re interested in communities, social networks, social media, advertising, and all the other stuff that really makes the Internet FUN, you should stick around. Social media is a passion of my life, and through my highly opinionated nature, an annoying desire to over analyze everything, and a lack of fear when it comes to making a fool of myself on the Internet, I hope to spark some fun banter about these topics and more.
Hey. Don’t roll your eyes at the use of FUN. That may not be why people are first drawn to the Internet, but it is what keeps them coming back. The Internet gives everyone a voice and the potential for a crowd interested in hearing what you have to say. It seems a bit patronizing to say that (and in my first post too!) but I tend to forget that core concept very regularly. I get wrapped up in the technical bells and whistles of a site and lose sight of the core goals.
I’m not the only one.
You see it time and time again on major social networking blogs. boyisureneedafriend.com has some super rad new way of loading images 100 times faster! AMAZING! Will it increase the number of new users of the service? Nope. Will it solidify the core user’s relationship with the site? Probably not. The technology sounds really cool, but it would probably be best ingested in a dev site. That’s not going to (well at least I hope not) happen here. Everything will loop back to how it affects users, how it affects social interaction, and the community as a whole. If it all works out right, we could get a pretty cool little thing going on here.
Also, I should probably note that I’m not going to be one of those crazy multiple-posts-a-day cats. Honestly, I’ve got a lot more in this world to do than put together that much good content. Boy’s gotta pay the bills, you know? Expect a good post probably once every week or so as I start off. We’ll see how it goes from there.
Thanks again for checking TSF out. We’ll see ya again soon
